Where Can I Earn a Certificate in Translation Studies?
With so many options available today how do you make sense of them all and decide where to complete a program? This article helps readers decide where they can earn a certificate in translation studies.
Right now you basically have three options, you can complete a certificate on campus somewhere, through a seminar or conference, or online through a certification program.
On campus certificate programs: If you live near a college campus or already attend a university you may be able to find a program there which suits your needs and helps you get more qualified in the translation industry. These programs typically cost $850-$3,500 based on how many courses are required to earn the certificate.
Seminars and conferences: If you want to complete a conference or seminar based program be prepared to spend $600-$1,995, the advantage of this option is that over just 2-5 days you could complete the entire program.
Online translator certification programs: For some professionals completing an online certificate program program may make the most sense due to the diverse locations that translators are based in, and the number of practical benefits which come from completing a program which includes video and audio training components. These programs typically cost $300-$700 and take 2-8 months to complete.
Each of these options has their own strengths and weaknesses but if you do further research within each area one of these options will surely come out in front as the best choice for your situation. I would encourage you to do a lot of your own research and decide for yourself what makes the most sense, everyone is different and has different needs in terms of training.
That being said, most translators can gain an edge within the industry by completing a translator certification program such as the Certified Translation Professional (CTP)
